West Brom hit snag in pursuit of centre-forward – reliable journalist
West Brom have hit a snag in their pursuit of Bournemouth striker Joshua King after it has been revealed he wants to play ‘at the highest level’, including Europe, according to Simon Johnson.
The Athletic journalist has said that the Baggies are yet to agree a fee with Bournemouth, with West Ham, Aston Villa, Everton and Brighton also ‘considering’ a bid.
On his personal Twitter account, Johnson stated that King has aspirations of joining a club who play in Europe and that there is interest from such clubs in signing the Bournemouth forward.
The fact that there is interest from Champions League clubs would make it very unlikely that King would want to move to the Hawthorns even if the Baggies can agree a fee for the Norwegian international.
West Brom have until October 16 to bring in the striker they so desperately need, but if Johnson’s information is true then it looks like King won’t be the man to solve the Baggies’ problems.
This update could see the West Brom go all out for Huddersfield striker Karlan Grant, who they have been chasing all summer.
Grant and King were the two best striking options for the Baggies following the closure of the transfer window, but with Premier League clubs allowed to buy from the EFL until October 16, it has left the door open for one of the forwards to come to the Hawthorns.
Albion are running out of time to get a deal for a striker over the line and if they are unable to, it could be a huge blow to the club’s survival hopes.
