Premier League fans could force PPV U-turn ahead of West Brom clash v Burnley – report
The Premier League have caused outrage this week by deciding to introduce a new pay-per-view system for games.
West Brom fans and others will now be forced to spend up to £15 for any game that isn’t selected for live coverage from Sky or BT Sports.
The Daily Mail have reported that outraged fans could force the Premier League to make a last-minute U-turn on the decision though.
According to that report, Premier League clubs voted on the matter in the previous week and only Leicester City voted against it.
It was suggested that the clubs voted in alphabetical order, meaning that West Brom were one of the last sides to vote on the decision.
That could have swayed their decision, with the vote already decided before the Baggies were asked for their opinion on the matter.
Given that all games were shown free in the first month of the season, this appears to be a drastic change on how fans can take in the action.
West Brom fans are the unfortunate case-study after this decision.
The Baggies next three games against Burnley, Brighton and Fulham are all on box office or pay-per-view, meaning it could be up to £45 for them to watch all three outings.
This deal simply benefits the fans of bigger clubs, who are more likely to be shown on Sky or BT Sports each week – with the Albion simply not one of those sides, evidently.
The U-turn could certainly happen though, with Steve Madely of the Athletic also claiming they could have a rethink on how to broadcast these fixtures.
