View: West Brom player set for int’l audition as Baggies close in on new signing

West Brom have less than one week to secure the signing of Karlan Grant from Huddersfield Town.

The Baggies have until the second deadline on Friday, with there being no strong progress yet being made at the Hawthorns.

Joseph Masi of the Express and Star claimed that the Albion had placed a £6million loan offer for Grant, including an obligation to buy.

Should Grant arrive at the Hawthorns, he would want to be first choice.

Callum Robinson is currently occupying that role, and got his first two goals of the season in the 3-3 draw against Chelsea some weeks ago.

The forward hasn’t done much to let Slaven Bilic down, but the Croatian will have a decision to make should he bring another forward in.

Robinson shouldn’t be immediately dropped, but he made need to continue proving himself as each game passes this season.

The next opportunity for Robinson to impress is Ireland’s game against Wales on Sunday afternoon in the Nations League.

Bilic will be watching closely, and the striker should treat this as another audition to prove himself as the number one choice in the final third.

Should Grant arrive, it would happen before the next game against Burnley, and Robinson may need to impress to keep his spot for that clash.

The Baggies forward is the club’s third-best performer according to WhoScored, and even if Grant arrives this week, we believe he deserves to keep his spot – for now, at least.
