Cardiff want to sign West Brom senior player – Telegraph

Cardiff are interested at taking West Brom striker Charlie Austin on loan following an injury to one of their key men, according to the Telegraph.

Austin has only featured twice for the Baggies this season, making two appearances in the Carabao Cup. He scored in the penalty shootout loss to Brentford but is yet to appear in the Premier League.

It is now understood that Championship side Cardiff are looking for a replacement striker after Kieffer Moore suffered an injury, with Austin interesting the Bluebirds along with a Championship striker.

The report says, “The Welsh club have opened talks with Barnsley over Cauley Woodrow and are also looking at West Brom striker Charlie Austin.

“Austin has experience in the Championship at the Hawthorns but will be allowed to leave the club for the right deal as Slaven Bilic wants to bring in another striker.”

It seems Austin’s days as a West Brom player are numbered, but there seems to be interest in a move for him, meaning he may not be sat on the Baggies bench all season.

Bilic has been keen to bring a new striker to the Hawthorns this summer, but currently, he has not done so. With the closure of the foreign transfer window last week, if the Baggies are to secure a new forward it will have to be from the EFL and before October 16.

With Austin being allowed to leave, this could suggest Bilic is happy that they will get another forward in. If they sell Austin and don’t get a striker they will only have Callum Robinson as an option going forward.

But Robinson may have to self isolate for 14 days after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID 19 while on international duty. If this is the case then Bilic may have to turn to Austin to lead the line in the Baggies’ next Premier League game against Burnley.

It may prove to be a crucial week for the Baggies, with the domestic transfer window closing on Friday. Hopefully, by then the futures of Austin and a new striker are sorted out.
