West Brom line up swoop to sign forward with 86 caps – Report
West Brom are interested in bringing Swansea striker Andre Ayew to the Hawthorns before Friday’s transfer deadline, according to the Daily Mail.
The Baggies are still in the hunt for a new striker to lead their line in the Premier League and according to a report they are looking at Ayew, who scored 15 Championship goals last season.
The Daily Mail report that both West Brom and Brighton are interested in bringing the 86-cap Ghanaian international back to the Premier League.
The report says that Ayew is ‘poised’ for a return to the Premier League this week following helping Swansea to an unbeaten start in the Championship.
Ayew has plenty of Premier League experience with spells in the English top-flight with Swansea and West Ham.
It would be a reunion of sorts if Slaven Bilic was able to bring his former striker to the West Midlands, as Bilic signed Ayew while he was at West Ham in 2016.
The Baggies approach the final days of the transfer window without the striker that they so desperately need. Huddersfield striker Karlan Grant continues to be linked with a move to the Hawthorns but perhaps this report suggests that Bilic has turned his attention elsewhere.
Ayew certainly fills the Premier League experience quota for the Baggies, with his 21 goals in 89 appearances between 2015 and 2018. He already has one goal for the Swans this season and has played every minute of Swansea’s Championship campaign so far.
He would be able to jump right into the Baggies squad if he signs, which is perhaps why West Brom are keen to sign him as they need a new striker as soon as possible. With Hal Robson-Kanu ruled out with injury and Callum Robinson missing the next game due to isolating, it leaves Charlie Austin to lead the line in the Premier League.
This far from ideal and is perhaps why the Baggies are looking at other options rather than just at Grant, whatever happens we should see movement at the Hawthorns in the next few days before the window shuts on Friday.
In other West Brom news, West Brom could be forced to start underperforming player after international developments.
