West Brom are in advanced talks with Sheffield Wednesday over a deal that would see Kenneth Zohore head to Hillsborough, according to the Express & Star.
The newspaper claims that Zohore, 26, is likely to join the Owls on an initial loan deal before the domestic transfer window slams shut at 5pm on Friday.
West Brom signed Zohore for £8million from Cardiff City last year but the Dane started just five Championship matches last season as the Baggies won promotion and not been named in any of Slaven Bilic’s matchday squads since.
It’s easy to forget now but Zohore scored a few big goals for Albion last season.
He scored late penalty kicks in back-to-back matches against Derby and Reading in August, rescuing West Brom two vital points.
The ex-Cardiff man also scored the winner against Charlton in the FA Cup and came off the bench to score and assist goals in the 3-2 cup defeat to Newcastle – which was arguably his best performance in West Brom colours.
However, those flashes were few and far between as not only did Zohore fail to impress Bilic enough to earn regular game-time, he also failed to impress fans when he did manage to get an opportunity.
Sheffield Wednesday are welcome to Zohore, who’d be unlikely to feature at all for the Baggies this season in the Premier League if he does not leave The Hawthorns before 5pm on Friday.
It’s a shame that the club hasn’t been able to agree an instant permanent exit for the ex-Copenhagen striker but in this financial climate, Albion are lucky they have reached this level of talks at all for him.
