‘Wow’ – Daryl Burgess shocked by one part of West Brom deal to sign Karlan Grant
West Brom finally completed the signing of Karlan Grant from Huddersfield Town on Thursday evening.
The Baggies eventually brought in Slaven Bilic’s number one target after weeks of negotiating on a permanent deal.
Steve Madeley of the Athletic shared it was an undisclosed fee, while also sharing that Grant had signed a six-year deal at the Hawthorns.
That may have surprised some, with a real signal of intent from the Baggies.
One of those it has shocked is Albion legend Daryl Burgess, who shared his reaction on his personal Twitter account on Friday.
“Wow,” he wrote. “The Karlan Grant deal – six years.”
This is a real sign of trust in Grant, who will be the number one recognised central striker at West Brom for a number of years to come.
The 23-year-old scored 19 goals last season, and Bilic has been screaming out for that in the final third so far in the Premier League.
West Brom have so far had to rely on Callum Robinson has their central striker, and his two goals against Chelsea are his only returns.
Grant is set for his debut against Burnley, with Robinson likely to miss the clash after being in isolation after international duty with the Republic of Ireland.
This will be Grant’s second taste of Premier League action after the striker scored four goals in his nine starting appearances in 2019.
Burgess may be shocked at this deal right now, but a debut goal against Burnley would certainly help many like him understand.
