Slaven Bilic has claimed that the development of West Brom defender Dara O’Shea is “really unbelievable.”
The Irish international was in the academy at the start of last season, but made his breakthrough and became a mainstay in Bilic’s squad.
Bilic was delighted for the defender after he made his senior debut for the Republic of Ireland, claiming his confidence will be through the roof right now.
Speaking via the Irish Examiner, Bilic claimed that O’Shea has had a “fairytale” couple of years after his breakthrough at the Hawthorns.
“I am extremely happy for him, he is a brilliant kid, and it will help,” he said. “It will help his motivation, his confidence that he has that cap for his country. Brilliant.”
“He listens to you and tries to improve his game, and that’s why his improvement has been really unbelievable.
“If you consider where he was last season at this time and where he is now, it’s like a fairytale. But he deserves it all.
“The main thing is is quality, but apart from the quality, it’s also his determination and his focus.”
O’Shea has enjoyed an incredible past two years in his career, making his international and earning promotion to the Premier League.
The 21-year-old has completed every minute of each game this season, highlighting the faith that Bilic has despite his lack of experience.
The defender was one of the only players to leave the defeat at Southampton with any sort of credit last week – completing five tackles as well as two interceptions according to WhoScored.
O’Shea is clearly one of the first names on the teamsheet at the Hawthorns, and long may that continue after this praise.
