We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has backed West Brom to pick up their first Premier League win of the season against Burnley on Monday evening.
Slaven Bilic will be without a number of key players for the game, meaning Karlan Grant could make his debut in the game.
Grant arrived from Huddersfield Town on Thursday evening in a £15million deal and could be thrown into the deep end against the Clarets.
Phillips has compared the new striker to Ollie Watkins and hopes he can make a similar impact to the Aston Villa star signing.
“Burnley haven’t started very well, have they,” Phillips told West Brom News.
“Whether it’s going to be the most entertaining match, I hope with West Brom, Karlan Grant hits the ground running just like Ollie Watkins – let’s hope he can do what he’s done at Villa.
“I think he will get some opportunities with the players around him, so I’m going to push the boat out and go for a West Brom win – 1-0.”
Burnley have only scored once, and have lost winnable games against both Southampton and Newcastle in their opening four.
Sean Dyche has seen his side become uncharacteristically leaky in defence, and the Baggies could definitely take advantage of that – something Grant could be ready for.
The Albion will want to start this clash similar to the way they did to the last game at the Hawthorns and avoid losing their lead as they did against Chelsea.
