‘We let this man go, deary me’, ‘Jesus’ – Some WBA fans react as former player makes headlines

All West Brom eyes were on a new striker in the summer transfer window, with Karlan Grant eventually signing ahead of the domestic window.

All eyes were on a former striker last night, as Kemar Roofe made all the headlines for Rangers in their 2-0 win against Standard Liege.

Roofe came up through the youth ranks at West Brom, making 78 appearances for the Under-23s but he only got as far as the bench for the first-team.

He eventually moved to Oxford in 2015 before his star was lit at Leeds when he moved there in 2016.

From there Roofe moved to Anderlecht before signing for Rangers in the summer.

And he scored what is probably the best goal of his career last night, as Rangers beat Standard 2-0 in their own yard in the Europa League.

With the home side pushing for an equaliser in stoppage time, Roofe managed to score an amazing goal from within his own half, spotting the keeper off his line and beating him with a lob from distance.

Plenty of West Brom fans reacted to the goal on Twitter, with one saying, “Another one we let go.”

And lots of others were looking at Roofe as one that got away, although he never did enough at The Hawthorns to convince people he should have been given a chance.

However, not all fans saw in that way. One wasn’t convinced that a single wonder goal is enough for the “Should’ve kept him” chants to hold any weight.

He said, “When he’s scoring goals on a regular basis in the PL, I might agree. In 5 years since leaving he’s gone on to play in league 1, the championship, Belgium and then to the SPL (so back to league 1 standard).”

That’s a slightly churlish reaction to such a brilliant goal but he’s got a point.

However, the majority of West Brom fans were left wondering what might have been after watching the goal.

It secured the three points for Rangers and handed Standard Liege their first loss at home in Europe in six years.

Here are the best of the rest of the reactions to Roofe’s wonder goal…
