West Brom defender in contention v Brighton after missing Burnley draw – Sky Sports
West Brom travel to Brighton on Monday evening looking to earn their first win of the Premier League season.
The Baggies will arrive on the back of the goalless draw against Burnley at the Hawthorns, although they should have earned more.
Karlan Grant, Branislav Ivanovic and Conor Gallagher all made their league debuts for the Albion in that game, with Slaven Bilic making drastic changes.
West Brom defender Kieran Gibbs was one of those who missed out against Burnley, although he could be reintroduced.
Sky Sports have reported that the left-back is in contention to start at the AMEX on Monday evening.
Conor Townsend has kept his spot ever since Gibbs was sent off against Everton in only the second game of the season.
With Bilic showing he isn’t afraid to make changes, it would be no surprise to see the experienced defender return against the Seagulls.
Bilic claimed after the draw with Burnley that Gibbs has to prove himself in training before he returns, so this would be a quick turnaround.
Townsend has been solid since replacing Gibbs, and it would be very harsh to replace him after he helped keep our first clean sheet of the season.
The 27-year-old was solid at the Hawthorns, and offered much more of an attacking output, completing two key passes in the draw.
We expect Townsend to keep his spot, and Gibbs to only be in contention for a spot on the bench if included in the squad.
