Athletic journalist makes £10m West Brom transfer claim after major news confirmed
Athletic journalist Steve Madeley has claimed that the deal for Ahmed Hegazi will ultimately be worth £10m to West Brom.
Hegazi joined Saudi club Ittihad on Sunday on an initial loan, with the transfer becoming permanent in the summer.
The news was announced on the Ittihad Twitter page on Sunday evening.
Madeley has claimed it was “odd timing” after Hegazi helped West Brom to their first clean sheet of the season in the game against Burnley.
However, he also said, “The move will be worth around £10m to Albion in transfer fee and saved wages.
“The club feel that, with Bartley and Ajayi available, it was too good a deal to refuse, especially as Hegazi wanted to go.”
Good business
The £10m reveal makes it very clear why Hegazi was sold and you won’t find many fans arguing with the deal.
That’s a huge amount of money for a 29-year-old, who joined two years ago for a fee of £4.5m.
He was reported to be on a massive £70k-a-week at West Brom and that’s a big sum of money off the wage bill.
Hegazi isn’t worth £10m to the club and would only be adding depth to the squad.
What West Brom fans will want to see is that money used to strengthen the squad in the January window.
By then Slaven Bilic will know where he needs to strengthen his side.
One thing we’re hoping is that Karlan Grant gets his first goal for the Baggies tonight. The longer he goes without a goal, the more worried we’ll be.
