Athletic: West Brom handed big blow as major news developing
The return of West Brom fans to The Hawthorns won’t occur until 2021 ‘at the earliest’ according to The Athletic.
There had been hopes that limited numbers of fans may have been allowed back into The Hawthorns this year after successful trial events in the lower leagues, but following rising COVID-19 cases in the UK this is now off the table.
The Athletic report comes amid major news that England could be heading for a full lockdown next week.
The good news is that there are no immediate plans to suspend the Premier League, as happened last March after the first lockdown.
However, plans to bring fans back to stadiums have been put on hold again.
An MP has told The Athletic that it will be ‘at least’ 2021 before fans are back in stadiums, as they report that “in a blow to supporters, it is understood that the return of fans to stadiums is now unlikely until 2021 at the earliest”.
This comes as a huge blow to Baggies fans who long to watch their side back in the Premier League at The Hawthorns.
Feelings of anger will only rise through Albion’s fan base as another Baggies match has been selected for Sky Sports’ Box Office service, meaning that fans will have had to shell out around £60 to watch four of their side’s games this season.
That £60 is on top of the various subscriptions some fans already pay to Sky Sports and now with no fans confirmed until the new year, many Baggies fans will be wondering how much more money they’ll have to spend to follow their team.
The attempts to get fans back into stadiums clearly isn’t a priority for the Premier League right now and that does make sense considering the unpredictability of the state of the country at the moment. Baggies fans can only hope that they will get to see their side play live again sooner rather than later.
In other West Brom news, Dimitar Berbatov has predicted the result of West Brom’s next game against his former side Fulham.
