‘I didn’t want to leave’ – West Brom forward opens up after failed transfer

Kamil Grosicki has explained that he didn’t want to leave West Brom this summer and he wanted to fight for his place at The Hawthorns.

Earlier this week an arbitration hearing blocked the Polish international’s move to Nottingham Forest after they had agreed a deal with the Baggies on deadline day for the winger.

Now, speaking to Polish outlet WP Sportowe Fakty, Grosicki has claimed that he was told by Albion on deadline day that there was no room for him in their Premier League squad.

He said, “I didn’t want to leave West Bromwich Albion. After returning from October’s international break, on the last day of the transfer window, I learned from the club that we have a large squad and there may not be enough space for me. More specifically: that I will probably not be entered into the competition.

“I told the sports director that I wanted to fight for my chance in the Premier League and I didn’t consider a transfer. Hours flew by and I began to think about the future. Not playing for WBA would complicate my situation in the national team, and soon the European championship.

“Nottingham Forest had expressed first interest six weeks earlier, so me and my manager renewed the topic”.

Incidentally, Grosicki was added to Albion’s Premier League squad after he returned to the club as the Baggies had only filled 24 of the 25 spaces available to them. He is also immediately available for selection meaning he could make an appearance when the Baggies take on Fulham on Monday.

Both sides go into Monday’s game looking for their first Premier League win of the season and Grosicki will want to help his side grab their first three points just as he helped them get promoted from the Championship last term.

With Albion’s congested schedule this season Bilic may end up having to use Grosicki just to make sure the players who are likely to start ahead of him can get a rest. In the long-run Grosicki’s failed transfer may end up being a blessing in disguise for the Baggies.

In other West Brom news, former Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov has made a prediction as his former side take on the Baggies on Monday.
