West Brom loanee ruled out for eight weeks with injury blow

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has confirmed West Brom loanee Kenneth Zohore has been ruled out for eight weeks with a calf injury.

Zohore, who joined Millwall on loan until January last month, scored his first goal for the Lions in their 2-0 win against Preston last week but was forced off in the 75th minute and then failed to feature against Huddersfield at the weekend.

And it seems that the 26-year-old is unlikely to feature again for Millwall until late December – just weeks before his loan deal expires.

“It’s really disappointing,” said Rowett, as quoted by LondonNewsOnline. “We feared the worse when it first happened. He got to 70 minutes [against Preston] and the plan was always to try and get him off around then – but he was fine.

“He’s chested the ball down and landed awkwardly on his other calf. It looks like he is going to be out for about eight weeks. When you think about the likes of Troy Parrott and Ken Zohore, you’re hoping they could be the difference in the final third for us – or at least some very good Championship options. Both have been unavailable, pretty much, for the games.

“Troy isn’t far off but to lose Ken for that period of time – particularly after he performed so well at Preston – we’re going to have to crack on without him for the time being.”

It doesn’t matter whether you rate Zohore as a West Brom player, seeing that he’s suffered this injury while on loan at Millwall is bad news for everyone concerned.

Yes, the Dane failed to shine at all for the Baggies last season despite costing them £8million to sign from Cardiff.

And yes, a lot of fans were glad to see the back of him last month when he joined Millwall on loan, albeit to January.

However, for the striker to go to The Den, play a couple of games, impress his manager, score a goal and then get ruled out for two months is a big, big blow.

Zohore’s unlikely to play again until the hectic festive fixture schedule comes around and just weeks after that, his loan deal will expire.

Will Millwall want to extend his loan when he’s suffering from injuries?

They might. But it would be a bit risky and West Brom might have to sort out the striker’s future yet again in January.
