West Brom loanee set for surgery with injury status 'Up in the air'
Lincoln manager Michael Appleton has confirmed that West Brom loanee Callum Morton is set to undergo surgery on a shoulder injury he sustained in September.
Morton, 20, made just five appearances for the League One side before suffering a shoulder injury in the gym.
The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley reported on September 28 that Morton had been ruled out “for a couple of months”.
An untimely setback for Albion youngster Callum Morton in his season-long loan at Lincoln. He's been ruled out for a couple of months with a shoulder injury sustained in the gym. Lincoln flying under Michael Appleton, too. #WBA

However, it seems that ex-Baggies coach Appleton is unsure about when Morton will be fit to play again as Albion are currently in charge of the young striker’s recovery.
“The Callum one is still up in the air. I think he is going to have an operation. As for when, West Brom are in control of that. Whether that’s going to be this week or next, I don’t know,” Appleton said, as quoted by LincolnshireLive.
Morton is one of the hottest young prospects that West Brom have so they need to get him back to full fitness as soon as possible so that his development does not stall.
The ex-Yeovil striker was on fire while on loan at Northampton last season, scoring eight goals in 12 appearances with one of those goals coming in Northampton’s League Two play-off final win over Exeter at Wembley.
The 20-year-old was handed a new four-year contract by West Brom in the summer before he was sent on a season-long loan to Lincoln but so far, that loan spell has not gone as expected.
As Morton is so highly-rated, you wouldn’t expect the Baggies to take any chances with the youngster’s fitness but he’s been out of action for over a month now and a decision is yet to be made on whether he will have an operation.
Morton, and everyone involved at Lincoln and West Brom, needs a resolution as quickly as possible to ensure this promising young player is back on the pitch and scoring goals for fun.
In other West Brom news, Guochuan Lai may have handed the Albion ownership over to someone else.
