‘We want to keep him’ – Manager wants to extend West Brom star loan deal

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has said he wants to keep West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore at The Den beyond his initial loan deal which expires in January.

Zohore scored his first Millwall goal on his first start against Preston last week, but the 26-year-old picked up an injury in that game that could keep him ruled out until December.

Despite this, Rowett has said he wants to get Zohore back fit ‘as quickly as we can’ while saying he would like to keep Zohore ‘down here’.

London News Online quote Rowett as saying, “We want to keep him [Zohore] down here if we can, we want to try and work as hard as we can to get him back playing as quickly as we can within a safe period.

“He wants to commit to that as well. I’m hoping he can come back with at least a month of his loan left. Let’s see if we can get some game-time out of him and let’s see if he can be as effective as he was”.

Zohore’s deal expires on January 16 so he won’t have many more games left in a Millwall shirt if the deal is not extended with his injury ruling him out until early December.

The Danish forward has been deemed surplus to requirements at The Hawthorns as Slaven Bilic seemingly prefers Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant as his forwards in the Premier League.

Zohore was even behind Charlie Austin in the pecking order before Grant arrived in the West Midlands. Austin made two Carabao Cup appearances for the Baggies this term ahead of the Danish striker who didn’t appear for Albion in any competition before his loan move.

Millwall seem keen to keep Zohore at The Den which means they may be interested in securing the services of the 26-year-old on a permanent basis. This would come as a boost to the Baggies during the January transfer window as Albion are very low on transfer funds.
