‘Want to be successful’ – Lee Bowyer responds to West Brom link after major Friday news

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has admitted that he is flattered with reports linking him with the West Brom job.

The Mirror reported on Friday that the Baggies are lining up Bowyer as a quick-fire replacement for the under-pressure Slaven Bilic.

West Brom are yet to win a game in the Premier League this season, and pressure is quickly starting to creep up on the Croatian.

Bowyer has responded to the links and has claimed that all he wants is to be successful in his career, something he refused to deny.

“I first heard of it was when I saw Jed in work this morning – he mentioned it. I wasn’t even aware of it,” he told London News Online.

“I think you know me now, I don’t look at social media or the papers. I keep away from all that. It’s nice to be recognised. It happened a few times last season and the season before. If you do well then people recognise you do well.

“I want to be successful. I’ve never once denied that. I want to be successful and be as high as I can and challenge myself.”

John Percy has reported that a heavy defeat against Spurs this weekend could spell the end for Bilic, something that would surely disappoint most fans.

That would see the Baggies have to pay off the Croatian, and then put together a handsome compensation package for Bowyer.

It would be a strange move for the Baggies to sack an experienced manager such as Bilic, and replace him with Bowyer, who was relegated from the Championship last season.

This weekend is a massive clash, but the season won’t be decided after games such as this.
