West Brom plot ‘shock move’ for 43y/o manager as Bilic clings on – report
West Brom are eyeing a “shock move” for Lee Bowyer with Slaven Bilic’s future at threat, according to an exclusive in the Daily Mirror.
The 43-year-old is currently the manager at League One Charlton, who were relegated last season from the Championship.
The Mirror talks of Bilic’s discontent over his transfer budget and the sale of Ahmed Hegazi.
Meanwhile, results on the pitch have been terrible and West Brom are currently in the bottom three.
The Mirror report echoes what John Percy had said in The Telegraph earlier in the week, that a heavy defeat against Tottenham this weekend could spell the end for Bilic.
Bilic not gone yet
West Brom fans will be split over this news but Bowyer is a manager who’s caught the eye at other clubs.
He was said to have impressed the Leeds board over his role at Charlton and he was unlucky to get relegated last season.
That happened on the final day of the season after top scorer Lyle Taylor refused to play following the lockdown with his contract up.
The next two West Brom fixtures are pretty intimidating – Tottenham followed by Man United at Old Trafford.
It’s not just that, though. The pressure on the players is going to be immense.
They’ll be fully aware of what’s going on and while Bilic has called for them to be more “streetwise” they might not appreciate a manager who seems unwilling to take his blame in what’s going on.
If Bilic was to go, we think West Brom could do a lot worse than Bowyer, if they can convince the 43-year-old to come to The Hawthorns.
