Many West Brom fans blast 'Horrendous' player in 1-0 loss v Spurs: 'Get rid'
Some West Brom fans were furious after Sam Johnstone’s mistake cost them a point against Tottenham Hotspur.
For large portions of the game, Albion were arguably the better side and on another day the Baggies could have scored two or three against a very strong Tottenham side.
Kalan Grant missed two chances and Callum Robinson had a cross cleared off the line in the first half before Conor Gallagher and Darnell Furlong went close in the second.
Late on in the game, Johnstone looked as if he was caught in two minds as he half-heartedly came to collect Matt Doherty’s cross before Kane flicked the ball past the Albion keeper to give Spurs all three points.
The 27-year-old had played very well in the game and made some vital saves to keep the scores level before he was beaten by Kane’s excellent header.
It may be harsh to criticise Johnstone and some blame may have to lie with Kyle Bartley but some Baggies fans took to social media to criticise their goalkeeper.
Some fans were more understanding and made it clear that Johnstone still played well despite his mistake but at the end of the day, if Johnstone stays on his line, Albion take a point.
Here are the reactions of some West Brom fans following Johnstone’s error:
Get rid of Sam Johnstone now!!!!!!!

Sam Johnstone will never be my cup of tea sorry, he can't do the basics he doesn't catch or come for crosses it's like having a striker that's scared to shoot.

Johnstone has cost us a point there horrendous that. Made a hood save 5 minutes before then absolutely bottles that!!

Johnstone has to take blame for that goal but judging by some of the tweets some people have been waiting for that for weeks, he’s had a solid season and a solid game up to that point #WBA

Lapse of concentration but Johnstone was at fault there

I’m not going to criticise Johnstone because he’s been excellent the past few games. That said, his biggest floor is coming off his line. He just doesn’t do it, which is fine if you don’t hesitate about it. Your defenders need to know you’re not coming for that ball. #wba

Johnstone been great but that was crap

Agreed Johnstone needs to just clean everything out there but Bartley has to be jumping with Kane. Just a poor goal between them

Albion really needed something from this game to lift some of the pressure that has been building around Slaven Bilic. The timing of the goal won’t do Albion any favours mentally either as they face a daunting trip to Old Trafford after the international break.
