‘Nonsense’ – Slaven Bilic responds to claims he could be sacked by West Brom
Slaven Bilic has labelled reports questioning his West Brom future “nonsense” after his Baggies side lost 1-0 against Spurs.
The Mirror reported that a heavy defeat today could have spelt the end for Bilic, with Charlton’s Lee Bowyer being lined up as a replacement.
West Brom were superb against the high-flying Spurs and were denied agonisingly by a last-gasp Harry Kane header.
Bilic was questioned about the reports suggesting it could be the end, claiming that he isn’t worried in the slightest after a battling display.
“I haven’t seen at all – not in one single moment in the time I have been here – that they aren’t, as you like to say, playing for me,” he told the Express and Star.
“To be fair, for me, it’s a nonsense to raise a question about my future. All this time I am trying my best and we have shown enough for this club to be successful.
“I am not at all worried, I don’t even think about that.”
This was exactly the display that West Brom needed to show after their shocking performance against Fulham.
On any other day, the Baggies could have been two or three goals to the good before Kane struck in the final moments.
Callum Robinson, Darnell Furlong and Karlan Grant all missed clear-cut chances, and it’s more impressive given it was without the influential Matheus Pereira.
The Baggies won 30 aerial battles and almost 20 tackles according to WhoScored, more combined than the Fulham clash in this perfect response.
Bilic has fired back to his critics this week, and he is certainly right to do so.
