‘We have to find…’ – Slaven Bilic eager to explore West Brom change after success v Spurs

West Brom once again changed their system for the 1-0 defeat against Spurs in the Premier League on Sunday.

Slaven Bilic was under pressure at the Hawthorns and was without Matheus Pereira and Branislav due to positive COVID-19 tests.

The Baggies went for two up-front, and that saw the introduction of Callum Robinson alongside Karlan Grant.

Bilic explained that decision, claiming that his side have missed too many chances in recent games in the Premier League.

“We haven’t scored enough goals so far,” he told the Express and Star.

“We have created chances that we needed to take – against Burnley and Spurs for example.

“We have to find that firepower. That is one of the reasons why we started with two strikers against Tottenham.”

When we say success, the Baggies created many more chances despite coming up against a so-called tighter defence.

Grant, Robinson and Darnell Furlong all missed great opportunities to open the scoring before Harry Kane scored the winner at the Hawthorns.

In the previous game against Fulham, Grant looked far too isolated and this link-up in the final third definitely showed great promise.

The change in system helped Grant, and he had a higher xG against Spurs. Despite playing 11 fewer minutes, he attempted nine more actions according to WyScout as he was clearly more involved.

Bilic appears to have found his best system, and it will be interesting to see where the likes of Pereira fit in once they return.
