‘Different kind of ruthless’ – West Brom star makes big claim about Baggies and Premier League

West Brom defender Darnell Furlong says that his side ‘won’t just settle’ for being in the Premier League and admitted he wants the Baggies to ‘get as high as’ possible.

The Baggies currently sit in the relegation zone and are yet to pick up a league win this season.

But Furlong clearly thinks the Baggies can escape their current predicament as he stated his confidence that Albion can avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship.

Furlong is quoted by the Express and Star as saying, “It’s a massive privilege to be here and we’ve got a goal of staying in the league this year and it’s one, I’m confident, we are going to achieve.

“The Premier League is a different kind of ruthless. You switch off for a second and someone has got away from you, or they are in behind. And players don’t tend to miss in the Premier League so it’s a big step up but we are ready for it.

“We don’t just want to stay in the division. We want to play nice football and get as high as we can. We won’t just settle for being here.”

Furlong’s comments make for optimistic reading but it is fairly inappropriate for the 25-year-old to talk about playing ‘nice football’ and trying to finish high in the league when his side are looking likely to be relegated this season.

His focus should be on helping the Baggies pick up a first league win. After that, the Baggies need to pull away from the relegation zone. Only after those things are achieved should Albion be looking at playing ‘nice football’.

We are sure that Baggies fans won’t mind if Slaven Bilic tells his side to play route one football this season as long as he keeps their team in the Premier League.

As for Furlong’s comments about not settling for just being in the Premier League, that’s exactly what his side have done this season. Granted the performances have improved in recent weeks. But the Baggies should be focused on just winning a game at this point, everything else can come later.
