Manchester United defender Alex Telles has tested positive for COVID-19 and could be ruled him out of next weekend’s clash against West Brom.
Telles signed for United this summer and has worked his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team plans.
He is currently on international duty with Brazil and Brazilian news outlet Globoesporte are reporting that the 27-year-old has tested positive for the coronavirus twice.
The report states that Telles tested positive after a test by Manchester United, however, he then recovered and played for Brazil on Friday before testing positive again on Saturday.
If he tests positive again he will not be allowed to enter Uruguay to play in his country’s next game and he will be sent home from the Brazil squad and return to England.
Due to the Premier League’s COVID rules, Telles may have to isolate for a period of 10 days which would mean he will miss the visit of West Brom on Saturday.
This will come as a small boost to the Baggies as they face a difficult away tie in their hunt for a first league win of the season.
Telles is yet to make a league appearance for the Red Devils but on his Champions League outing for Solskjaer’s side, he looked bright on the left-hand side and demonstrated brilliant crossing ability.
Luke Shaw will probably start ahead of Telles if he misses the game against Albion but United have plenty of other quality players who can cause the Baggies problems.
Albion will take confidence from the fact that Man United are yet to with at Old Trafford in the Premier League this season but they still face a quality opponent and Slaven Bilic’s side will need to be at their best to get a positive result.
In other West Brom news, one standout Baggies player has admitted he is pleased with his start to life at The Hawthorns.
