West Brom star delivers update on return from injury
West Brom attacker Hal Robson-Kanu said that his recovery from injury is all about “small steps” and that he is rebuilding strength in his arm.
The Wales international broke his arm against Southampton in October and is now back in training, having had surgery to insert a seven-centimetre titanium plate into the bone.
While he is not yet ready to return to action, he revealed that he is still developing mobility in the arm.
“You have to apply yourself every day and make sure you do the correct work so that when you do come back, you’re in good condition and you’re not going to break down, which is an issue for a lot of players,” he told The Athletic.
“Sometimes it’s unfortunate but other times it’s because the correct processes aren’t followed. It’s about small steps. Last week I couldn’t clench my fist but now I can more or less do that. Next week, I hope there will be more mobility and more strength in it.”
Robson-Kanu is a versatile and hardworking player whose presence has been missed so far this season.
Making 39 appearances and scoring 10 goals in the Championship last season, he was a key part of the Baggies promotion campaign and performed well, averaging 2.2 shots, 1.7 dribbles and 1.2 key passes per 90 minutes (via WhoScored).
Comfortable playing his role for the team, he has been a very valuable squad member since arriving from Reading in 2016, despite finding himself on the bench more often than in the starting line-up.
With Karlan Grant the only out and out striker currently in favour (Charlie Austin is yet to appear in the Premier League), a return for the Welshman will be a timely boost for Slaven Bilic while his side battle relegation.
