Report: Man United suffer fresh injury blow with two players now doubts v West Brom

Manchester United have reportedly suffered two fresh injury blows ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with West Brom at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Star, both Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial picked up back injuries while away on international duty with Sweden and France respectively.

This has put them in doubt to feature against the Baggies on Saturday and adds to the injury problems facing manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

As per Premier Injuries, Eric Bailly, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Jesse Lingard are all doubts, while Phil Jones and Luke Shaw have been ruled out.

The update comes at the worst possible time for United, who have lost three of their opening four home games, taking just one point (via WhoScored).

The Baggies have no fresh doubts, with Sam Field and Hal Robson-Kanu still ruled out (via Premier Injuries). Branislav Ivanovic and Matheus Pereira are expected to be back after missing out against Tottenham Hotspur, while Callum Robinson is expected to be available despite being ruled out for the Republic of Ireland due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Manchester United

While a fixture away against Manchester United is usually seen as one of the toughest of the season, West Brom should go into this match with some confidence.

Not only has United’s form been poor this season, but with such a large number of injuries piling up, they are likely to be forced into multiple changes.

For Slaven Bilic, the key is in striking the correct balance between attack and defence, as he did against Spurs. While Jose Mourinho’s side had the two best chances of the game (via InfoGol), West Brom blocked eight shots and completed 19 tackles as a team (via WhoScored). Furthermore, they had 14 shots in total and forced nine corners from which to attack.

The big question in selection is how Bilic fits Matheus Pereira back into the side within the 5-3-2 formation, especially given the recent form of Conor Gallagher and Filip Krovinovic. Whatever he chooses to do, the Baggies have hope of earning a result and should not be afraid of their depleted opponents.
