Bilic confirms a number of West Brom players have tested positive for Covid-19

Slaven Bilic has explained that ‘a few’ West Brom players have tested positive for COVID-19 but he hopes that they will be able to train in the coming days.

Branislav Ivanovic and Matheus Pereira missed West Brom’s game against Tottenham before the international break after both players tested positive for the coronavirus.

Bilic has now explained that other Albion players have received positive tests but didn’t reveal who these players are.

BBC reporter Simon Stone reported the comments from Bilic’s pre-match press conference as the Baggies boss confirmed that Ivanovic and Pereira had been training this week.

There has been a spate of positive COVID tests over the international break with numerous players and staff members from various countries having to isolate.

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is one such player and he may miss his new side’s game against Albion this weekend as he is currently still isolating in Uruguay.

Bilic may not want to release the names of the players who have received positive COVID tests as to not panic Baggies fans if they are some of Albion’s more influential players.

West Brom face a hard enough task as it is when they take on Manchester United on Saturday. without senior players missing.

Baggies defender Dara O’Shea avoided a COVID scare after one of his international teammates tested positive for the disease last week.

But it could be assumed that the players Bilic is referring to stayed with Albion over the international break, which rules out O’Shea, Semi Ajayi and Kamil Grosicki.

Hopefully, Bilic is right and the players in question will be able to train ahead of Saturday’s vital clash at Old Trafford.
