West Brom under-23s fell to a late defeat in the Premier League 2 on Monday afternoon, losing 2-1 against Leeds.

Deon Burton named one of his stronger sides with the players available to him, but still had no senior options to choose from at Thorp Arch.

Leeds, on the other hand, had five first-teamers in their squad, including Kiko Casilla, Ian Poveda and Rodrigo all starting.

That didn’t affect the young Baggies though.

It only took 10 minutes for them to take the lead, and it was Cheikh Diaby who got the goal in West Yorkshire.

After the ball fell to him in the box, the young forward kept his composure and smashed the ball in below Casilla from 10-yards out.

Academy chief Richard Stevens admitted that the 20-year-old could go out on loan after Christmas, as he looks to build on his momentum with the youngsters.

Diaby missed pre-season due to quarantine and lockdown rules during this pandemic, but he is finally getting up to speed after months of disruption.

Many West Brom fans have reacted to the performance of Diaby on Monday, claiming he did excellent against the experience on show for Leeds.

Some even claimed that he should be in the first-team, and one believes that chance should come against Sheffield United this weekend – maybe one step too far.
