Tony Brown statue mysteriously disappears from outside The Hawthorns – reliable journo

West Brom have “mysteriously” removed the statue of Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown from outside The Hawthorns, according to radio presenter Adrian Goldberg.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Friday, Goldberg shared that he and former Birmingham Mail journalist Chris Lepkowski can reveal the statue of Albion legend Brown has disappeared from outside of the East Stand.

Of course, The Hawthorns is closed to all West Brom supporters at the moment and will be for a while longer due to the West Midlands being placed into Tier 3, meaning no fans are still unable to attend matches.

However, removing the statue of West Brom’s all-time appearance and goalscoring record holder is odd.

We assume that there must be some kind of maintenance work being done to the statue or to the area surrounding it outside the East Stand.

But yet again, why don’t the club communicate things like this?

Goldberg and Lepkowski have done some brilliant work on The Liquidator podcast in recent weeks by sharing a mystery surrounding Guochuan Lai’s ownership of the club as documents suggested the control of the Baggies had been handed over to Ms Yasha Ge.

They’ve also shared that takeover talks have been held by the Black Country club amid interest from consortia backed by US businessmen.

When approached for information on Lai and Ge, the Baggies were everything but helpful in their responses and even left Shareholders 4 Albion in the dark despite them owning a minority share in the club.

Just because fans cannot go to games doesn’t mean that supporters should be left in the dark about serious issues at the club.

Yes, it’s just a statue and no, we don’t think there’s anything too serious behind the removal of it.

But why can’t the club just share more information with the fans other than the same bland copy-and-paste quotes from players every other day that nobody really cares about?

Is it really that difficult to release a short statement saying that it’s being removed temporarily for maintenance?
