West Brom mainstay shares praise from Manchester United duo after masterclass
West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone once again put on a masterclass in the 1-0 defeat against Manchester United last week.
The Baggies stopper made a number of saves, and on any other day, that would have led to leaving Old Trafford with some points.
Johnstone even saved a Bruno Fernandes penalty, but VAR ordered it to be re-taken, no surprise given that it was for the Red Devils.
Johnstone has been clear with his reaction to that game and was disgusted that players can still stutter before penalties.
The keeper then went on to share that a Manchester United duo were clear with their praise for him after the 1-0 defeat.
“David came up to me after the game and said, ‘Well done,’ and recognised the saves I’d made,” he told the Times.
“So did Harry Maguire. If they’d drawn, I don’t know what they’d have done. We were gutted to lose.”
This time last season, Johnstone was heavily criticised and labelled as someone who had too many mistakes in his game.
How times have changed, the Baggies keeper is now one of the best in the Premier League and continues to drag the Albion out of holes in certain games.
West Brom were expected to conceded over three goals at Old Trafford according to WyScout, but Johnson made a number of reflex saves to prevent that.
The 27-year-old has shared his desire to represent England again, and with form like this, Gareth Southgate will surely be considering him for a call-up.
De Gea and Maguire were clearly impressed, and it is becoming a weekly occurrence that others are left speechless by his displays.
