‘Improved by miles’ – Plenty of West Brom fans in agreement over player of the season
A number of West Brom fans have named goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as their player of the season so far following a series of standout performances.
The former Manchester United man was outstanding on Saturday as the Baggies earned their first Premier League win of the season against Sheffield United.
Johnstone has been an ever-present in goal so far this season, keeping two clean sheets in the process.
According to FBRef, the 27-year-old made six saves against the Blades at The Hawthorns, with the efforts amounting to a total of 0.7 post-shot expected goals.
Across the season, he has a save percentage of 74.1% and has made more saves than any other keeper in the division (via FBRef).
When the question was posed by one West Brom-dedicated account, plenty of responders were in agreement that he had been the outstanding player so far.
One said that he needs to improve when collecting from crosses but has still been outstanding, while others praised his shot-stopping.
