‘Grateful’ – West Brom senior player sends Twitter message after U23s cameo

West Brom under-23s had a number of senior players to call upon in their Premier League 2 clash with Sunderland on Monday.

Deon Burton named Rekeem Harper, Kyle Edwards, Matt Phillips, Kamil Grosicki and Charlie Austin in his side as the Baggies cruised to a 3-1 win.

Grosicki grabbed most of the headlines for his double, but both Austin and Edwards also grabbed assists against the Mackems.

Slaven Bilic will have been keeping a close eye on his senior options, and how they reacted to be given the chance in the under-23s.

Edwards has delivered a message on his personal Twitter account after the game claiming that he is thankful for the opportunity.

“Grateful to be doing what I love most,” he wrote.

Questions were raised after Leeds utilised their senior squad against our under-23s last week, and in this game, the Baggies responded.

With opportunities limited in the first-team, the was the perfect chance for Burton and Bilic to cooperate and give more minutes out to those who need them the most.

Edwards has only started one game in the Premier League this season.

Add to that four substitute appearances, and the winger has only completed 132 minutes for the Baggies.

The 22-year-old has yet to deliver a successful cross according to WyScout and has only managed a single shot on target – nowhere near productive enough.

Edwards appears to have reacted perfectly to being dropped to the under-23s though, and he will just be excited to get the chance to prove himself to Bilic properly ahead of the game against Palace.

One negative? Grosicki’s brace could have put him down the pecking order – time will tell.
