West Brom duo jump into top 20 of Sky Sports Power Rankings after first win

West Brom finally earned their first win of the Premier League season against Sheffield United on Saturday evening.

Conor Gallagher’s first goal for the Baggies was enough to earn them the three points that everyone has been so desperate for this season.

The Blades miss numerous clear-cut chances, but Sam Johnstone was delighted to keep his second clean-sheet after the controversy of Old Trafford.

Sky Sports release a weekly Power Rankings of players in the Premier League, and it’s been no surprise that Albion haven’t been featured much.

This week, that changed.

Both Gallagher and Johnstone soared into the top 20, which reflects just how good they have been in turning around the fortunes at the Hawthorns.

The Chelsea loanee jumped 75 places into 11th, but it was Johnstone who actually rose the highest after weeks of quality outings.

The keeper rose 89 spots to 15th as two of Albion’s stars finally start to get the credit that they deserve in the Premier League.

This is exactly the credit that both players deserve.

Johnstone has been superb all season since promotion to the Premier League, but Gallagher has transformed the Baggies outfield.

His influence cannot be looked past in midfield. No one has a better average WhoScored match rating this season, and only Matheus Pereira has had more shots on goal.

With games against Crystal Palace and Newcastle coming up, the Baggies will want six points and Gallagher will certainly be key to that.
