‘You wouldn’t believe how much’ – Sam Johnstone sends message to West Brom fans after criticism
West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has issued a response to his critics following his excellent recent form for the club.
Johnstone has kept his side in games at times this season and he made another excellent stop against Sheffield United last weekend as he tipped an Oliver Burke header over his crossbar.
However, he has picked up a lot of criticism from fans this season.
Speaking in a Twitter Q and A, Johnstone was asked if he had a message for his critics and he provided a confident answer.
Johnstone said, “Keep backing me and the boys. You wouldn’t believe how much difference your support can make.”
First-hand support has been absent at games this season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic but Baggies fans have still had plenty to say about their club on social media.
Fans had criticised Johnstone in the early stages of the season but he looks to have proved them wrong as he is currently looking undroppable and is one of the Premier League’s standout performers.
This season Johnstone has made 43 saves in the Premier League which is only one behind Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow who has made the most saves in the league and also impressed this season.
He has had a lot of work to do because of the Baggies’ defensive issues but there is no doubting that he has won his side more points than any other player in the Albion squad this season.
He was vital as the Baggies kept a clean sheet against Burnley earlier in the season and he again proved his quality with a number of fine saves against the Blades.
Johnstone will need to be at his best if he is to help Albion stay in the Premier League but at the moment it looks like he couldn’t be performing any better and he had well and truly proved his critics wrong.
