View: Premier League player could have opened door to West Brom move in January

West Brom have been linked with a move for Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard since the beginning of the season.

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney claimed back in July that the Baggies were set to rival West Ham and Everton for the 27-year-old.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was understood to be readying a clearout at Old Trafford, but that is yet to have happened so far with January approaching.

A fresh update could open the door for the Baggies.

TEAMtalk have claimed on Saturday that Lingard is set to ask to leave Manchester United in January, with his lack of playing time starting to frustrate him.

It is understood that the 27-year-old would prefer to leave now rather than wait until the end of the current season when his contract comes to an end.

Celtic and Rangers are both said to have joined the race, and that could be significant given the Albion’s financial restraints moving forward.

West Brom have had to sell the likes of Ahmed Hegazi to improve their financial status, but that still may not be enough to justify a move for Lingard.

The 27-year-old is currently on a reported £75,000-a-week at Old Trafford, and that is a step too far for the Baggies, especially for a player who hasn’t featured regularly in years.

Lingard has only featured in the Carabao Cup twice this season, and the midfield area isn’t somewhere that the Baggies need to strengthen.

Matheus Pereira, Conor Gallagher and Filip Krovinovic are good enough to fill that midfield area and Slaven Bilic will be targeting other areas we hope in the upcoming market.
