‘Useless’, ‘Not good enough’ – Many West Brom fans savage ‘Liability’ at HT v Palace
West Brom didn’t get off to the best of starts in their Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
The Baggies made a couple of changes, bringing in Matt Phillips to their defence to cover the loss of Conor Townsend and Kieran Gibbs.
Palace took the lead in the opening stages when Darnell Furlong fired into his own net after a powerful cross from Wilfried Zaha.
It was Kyle Bartley who took most of the criticism though.
The Albion skipper gave away yet another cheap free-kick in a dangerous area, something which immediately put his side in a dangerous position for no reason.
All it took was two passes from that set-piece, and the ball was in the back of the net – despite Palace having zero shots on target up until that stage.
The 29-year-old only averages 0.4 tackles per game according to WhoScored, nowhere near good enough and a stat that is bettered by 14 other players.
Thankfully for Bartley, Conor Gallagher was on spot to fire home his second goal in as many weeks to equalise at the Hawthorns with a low finish.
Many West Brom fans have reacted to the performance of Bartley in the first-half, and the majority of them were not happy.
Some of the Baggies faithful even suggested that he is way out of his depth, and the younger Dara O’Shea should be brought in.
