Mark Halsey: West Brom have been “hard done by” with VAR in Premier League

Mark Halsey has admitted that West Brom have been “hard done” by VAR decisions this season in the Premier League.

The former top-flight official believes that the technology is far too involved, and it shouldn’t be used as much as it is.

After dubious decisions against Manchester United, Matheus Pereira was then given his marching orders in the 5-1 defeat against Crystal Palace.

Speaking to This is Futbol, Halsey claimed that the officials shouldn’t be getting involved as much as they are in the Premier League.

“They’ve really been hard done by and decisions like this cost managers their jobs, and we’ve got to get it right,” he said.

“Again, we’re getting VAR officials re-refereeing the games when they should not be getting involved.”

The game at Old Trafford was certainly the worst when looking back.

Starting with the Conor Gallagher incident, there was no way that Bruno Fernandes should have got away with his challenge, but what a surprise, it wasn’t.

Only a matter of minutes later, Darnell Furlong was penalised for a handball despite the defender never having a chance of getting out of the way.

That rule has since been changed, showing how bad of a decision it was initially.

It has come too late for the Baggies though, as they have already seen too many decisions overturned or put against them in the Premier League.
