View: Controversial incident presents golden opportunity to West Brom outcast
Kamil Grosicki has been handed a glorious opportunity to reignite his West Brom career after Matheus Pereira was sent off against Crystal Palace.
Pereira controversially received a straight red card after appearing to kick his feet into the midriff of Patrick van Aanholt while falling down.
Referee Paul Tierney initially gave the Brazilian a yellow card but after consulting with VAR the punishment was upgraded.
This means Pereira will miss Albion’s next three games, failing an unlikely successful appeal to the Premier League.
With Grosicki returning to the matchday squad against Palace, he now has the perfect chance to prove himself to Slaven Bilic.
As a winger, Grosicki could prove to be a like for like swap for Pereira and after getting himself on the scoresheet in a recent U23s game he is surely chomping at the bit to play first-team football.
The Polish international has plenty of Premier League experience and he could add a different dimension to the Baggies attack with his accurate passing which saw Grosicki pick up seven assists last season.
Pereira registered 13 assists last season but he hasn’t repeated his impressive feat so far this term with just one assist in 10 Premier League games.
Karlan Grant has been starved of service since he arrived at The Hawthorns and Grosicki could hold the key to unlocking the forward’s quality.
With the Baggies facing Newcastle and Aston Villa in their next three games, assuming the Newcastle game goes ahead, Albion have a chance to get more points on the board.
Bilic could do a lot worse than starting a player with Premier League experience and something to prove in these vital games.
If Grosicki is given a chance it could be just the opportunity he needs to prove to his manager that he has something to offer the Baggies as they fight against relegation.
In other West Brom news, Bilic has explained why one Baggies player was left out of the squad to face Palace.
