View: Clip of Branislav Ivanovic incident v Crystal Palace proves WBA hard done by VAR
West Brom were once again the victims of VAR in their 5-1 thrashing against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
With the scores level at 1-1 at the Hawthorns, Matheus Pereira was given his marching orders after appearing to kick out at Patrick Van Aanholt.
The Baggies were well on top at this stage and were starting to turn the screw in search of the goal that would have put them ahead and on top.
VAR has haunted the Baggies many times already this season, and it did again on Sunday.
Pereira was initially shown a yellow card, and despite minimum contact, it was upgraded to a sending off after reviewing the footage.
Despite that big change, it never benefitted the Albion.
Moments later, Vicente Guaita appeared to crash through Branislav Ivanovic from a set-piece, and despite getting nowhere near the ball, it wasn’t picked up.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re going for the ball or not, the truth of the matter is if you don’t get the ball, you should be penalised.
This clip proves that the defender cleared the ball and not Guaita, so why wasn’t this picked up by officials or VAR?
The former Premier League referee, Mark Halsey admitted that the Baggies have been more than hard done by VAR this season.
This is concrete proof that yet another decision has gone against West Brom this season, and at crucial points in games.
After the half-time break, the game was never in our control and Palace dominated to take control – something that may not have happened if the Baggies took the lead from the spot before the break.
We hope that our luck starts to turn around, and quick.
