West Brom make checks on 12 goal forward, club demands seven-figure sum – report
West Brom are interested in the services of Crawley Town striker Max Watters, according to The Daily Mail.
Watters has been in sensational form for the League Two club with the forward scoring 12 goals in 14 competitive appearances for the Red Devils this season.
The 21-year-old was released by Doncaster Rovers at the end of last season but now several Premier League clubs are interested in securing his services.
They report that Watters’ displays have been noted and tempted scouts from a number of top-flight clubs, both from England and from Europe.
It is claimed that West Brom and Watford are two of the clubs that have ‘made checks’ on one of League Two’s rising stars.
Crawley are reportedly holding out for a seven-figure sum for their star man which may put some clubs off a move for the unproven forward.
The Baggies desperately need to add some attacking threat to their line up with Slaven Bilic’s side struggling in front of goal this season.
Albion have only scored eight goals in 11 Premier League games this term and they need to up that goalscoring rate considerably if they are to stay in the top flight.
Spending £1million on Watters would be a strange move by the Baggies as he has no top-flight or even Championship experience.
Watters does look to be a decent young talent and his goalscoring record is impressive but if Albion are looking to bolster their attack in January they need to find someone who has a track record of scoring goals in the Premier League.
With no clear funds available from Guochuan Lai, it appears as though the Albion are starting to get desperate in their search for more firepower.
