‘If we go down 100%’ – These West Brom fans say the same thing about transfer news

West Brom fans have reacted to the reports that the Baggies could be interested in re-signing Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle by claiming that it would only make sense if they were in the Championship.

According to the Newcastle Chronicle, West Brom are keeping tabs on the 31-year-old, who could be out of contract in the summer if he fails to agree to a new deal that will keep him at St James’ Park.

Gayle spent the 2018/19 season on loan at The Hawthorns, scoring 24 goals in 40 appearances as they reached the Championship playoffs (via WhoScored).

However, during spells at Newcastle and Crystal Palace, he has never been able to convince that he is quite of Premier League quality, managing 25 goals from 119 top-flight appearances across his career (via Transfermarkt).

The former non-league player turns 32 next October and is yet to appear for the Magpies this season due to an injury. When he returns he will have to fight his way past Callum Wilson, who has seven Premier League goals already this season (via WhoScored), and Joelinton, in order to earn game time.

In response to the reports being posted by one West Brom account on Twitter, a number of fans were quick to say that it would only be a good move if the Baggies were back in the Championship.
