West Brom fell to yet another Premier League defeat on Saturday as they lost 2-1 against Newcastle United.
The Baggies are struggling for form and got off to the nightmare start at St James’ Park after conceding in the opening minutes.
Despite Darnell Furlong equalising, the Albion left the North East with nothing after Dwight Gayle came back to haunt his former club.
Furlong was one of the only positives to take from this defeat.
Some had questioned whether or not the right-back had what it takes for the Premier League, but he is consistently proving that he can be a real weapon.
The 25-year-old has become a real weapon for the Baggies going forward, and he is a big threat coming in at the back post, as he proved with his goal.
It was a strikers’ finish too, smashing home into the bottom corner with the outside of his boot on the volley to give his side more than a chance.
Furlong has a goal and an assist in his last two outings, but his defensive work was solid on Saturday too. The defender only lost a single aerial battle, and also won four out of his six defensive duels according to WyScout.
Many West Brom fans have showered Furlong in praise, claiming that he is one of the only players who can take credit during this tough start to the Premier League.
Some even claimed they wouldn’t blame the likes of him and Sam Johnstone if they wanted to leave the Hawthorns in January, but let’s not tempt fate with that one.
