West Brom arrange press conference as doubts linger over Bilic future – reliable journo

West Brom have arranged a press conference on Monday ahead of the Manchester City match – and Slaven Bilic will be there, according to Joe Chapman.

The Birmingham Mail journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on Sunday that Albion have taken the usual pre-match practice of having their manager hold a press conference despite major doubts surrounding Bilic’s future at The Hawthorns.

West Brom lost 2-1 away at Newcastle on Saturday even though they looked good for a win in large periods of the game against a team that was hit hard by positive COVID-19 tests.

Last week, the Baggies suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat at home against Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace, leading to reports that Bilic’s job could be under threat ahead of the Newcastle game [Mirror].

However, it’s now assumed that Bilic isn’t going anywhere before the clash against Man City on Tuesday night based on him being set to attend the pre-match press conference.

No hope v Man City

Let’s face it, West Brom could be managed by Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola himself and they won’t stand a chance against Man City on Tuesday.

Although the Citizens have had a dreadful start to the Premier League campaign by their standards, you would expect them to complete rollover the misfiring Baggies at the Etihad on Tuesday.

Bilic’s job is under threat – there is no doubt about that.

He’s now seen the Baggies win just won of their last 16 league matches both in the Premier League and the Championship. That kind of form is unsustainable.

Whichever way you look at it – whether you want Bilic to stay or be sacked – there’s no hope of him staying at the club past the end of this season when his contract expires.

Bilic has aired his frustrations with West Brom’s leadership and must know that he is working one hand tied behind his back.

If he stays and Albion avoid relegation then that’s amazing but we don’t have any hope of him agreeing to extend his current contract.

And that’s a worry in itself. Why stick with a manager who might not see a future for himself at the club past the end of the season?
