‘Not good enough’ – Richard Keys slaughters West Brom board, shares verdict on Bilic
Richard Keys has slaughtered the West Brom board for showing no ambition after earning promotion to the Premier League this season.
The former Sky presenter has compared the Baggies to Norwich last season, claiming they were the clear favourites to be relegated.
Keys believes that after spending little-to-no money over the summer, they can’t now blame Slaven Bilic and sack him after some poor results.
Writing on his own blog, Keys demanded that the Baggies’ board show more class, and give Bilic the chance to turn this around.
“West Brom are this season’s Norwich,” he wrote. “They came up with no ambition. Yes – they would prefer to stay, but what chance has Slaven Bilic really got? They’ve spent diddly squat. They’re not good enough.
“Surely everybody at the club knows that? They’ve got to. So don’t blame Bilic. Give your man the time he deserves and needs. He’s principled. He’s the best you’ll find. He got you up last season and the chances are he’ll do it again next season.
“Don’t con your fans by pretending someone else can pull off a miracle now and sack the fella. Show some class. Do the right thing.”
Keys is spot on.
Who can blame Bilic for the wrongdoings this season when all he has been given is some loan signings and Karlan Grant? Add to that the sale of Ahmed Hegazi and the relationship has been clearly damaged.
There aren’t many options to come in and replace him either. The likes of Sam Allardyce and Nigel Pearson are two that spring to mind.
Bearing in mind that the goal at the start of this season will have been survival, the Baggies are not too far away from that.
Albion are only three points behind Burnley, and if they could string a couple of wins together, they could be out of this situation.
Keys is spot on. At this moment of time, it is time to support Bilic and give him the chance to turn this around at the Hawthorns.
