Slaven Bilic reveals West Brom motivation ahead of daunting Man City clash
Slaven Bilic will take confidence from his West Brom side’s performances against top clubs this season when the Baggies travel to the Etihad on Tuesday.
Albion face Manchester City this week which is an incredibly daunting prospect after last weekend’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Newcastle United.
But Bilic will take confidence into the game after taking a point off Chelsea this season and performing well against other top clubs in the Premier League.
Bilic told the West Brom website, “Take our season for example. We were very close to winning the game against Chelsea. Yes, Man City may be better on paper, but we are basically talking about two teams in the same category.
“We were 3-0 up against them. Why? They made a couple of mistakes but when they made them, we had forced them to make mistakes.
“We also had really good performances against Spurs and Manchester United when we were unlucky to lose. Our performances against the top teams this season has to be our motivation and our plan. You have to do your part against the biggest teams and hope that they have a bad day.”
Bilic’s assessment is largely correct as his side deserved to take something from their games against Manchester United and Tottenham.
The more concerning thing is that the Baggies have been very poor against sides that they have a much better chance of beating such as Fulham and Burnley.
Manchester City hardly impressed during last weekend’s Manchester derby but they still pose one of the toughest challenges the Baggies will face this season.
Pep Guardiola may rest a few key players but with his side six points off the top of the table, he is unlikely to take too much of a risk with his team selection.
Man City will have to have a really bad day at the office if the Baggies are to pick up a positive result at the Etihad and even though football has been unpredictable this season, it is hard to see anything other than a Manchester City win on Tuesday.
