West Brom handed unfortunate blow ahead of Man City clash – report

West Brom midfielder Sam Field has been ruled out of Tuesday night’s game against Manchester City.

According to BBC Sport, Field will miss the clash at the Etihad, despite recently returning to training.

The Express and Star’s Joseph Masi reported before the Newcastle defeat that Field was back in training after two months on the sidelines.

Field has become something of a forgotten figure at West Brom after so long out. It remains to be seen if this is a fresh set back or if the game has just come around too soon for the 22-year-old.

Cruel blow for Field

It has been a season to forget for Field so far, having suffered from a serious knee injury and also testing positive for COVID-19.

Field has long been touted for a bright future at West Brom – back when he was 18, Tony Pulis said he was ‘as gifted as any footballer I’ve seen at that age’, so to see him miss so much football will be a cruel blow for both the player and the club.

In the absence of the suspended Matheus Pereira, Field could have been considered as an option to step up into the midfield to provide more creativity.

Last season in the Championship, Field had a pass success rate of 85% and would deliver on average 7.6 passes into the final third per 90 minutes, according to Wyscout.

It is an unfortunate blow for Field to miss out, but he will be hoping that he can play some part in the club’s fight to avoid relegation and improve on his three Premier League appearances so far.
