Don Goodman shares verdict on Sam Allardyce replacing Slaven Bilic at WBA
Don Goodman has claimed that the sacking of Slaven Bilic by West Brom on Wednesday was “really harsh.”
The former Baggie and Sky Sports pundit claimed that there would be no one better than Sam Allardyce to take over at the Hawthorns.
Steve Madeley of the Athletic has reported that Big Sam should be in place to take charge against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
Reacting on Sky Sports after the news was confirmed, Goodman claimed that supporters are right to feel sympathetic to the Croatian.
“I knew that Slaven Bilic would have the sympathy of the majority of the supporters. At the end of the day, it seems on the face of it, really, really harsh,” he said.
“If you’re looking for someone who has a proven track record of coming in and getting teams organised, making them solid defensively, and making them hard to play against then Sam Allardyce is your man.”
This was clearly premeditated.
Big Sam has since been appointed by the Baggies, and he has even been handed an 18-month deal at the Hawthorns.
No manager will have been sacked after picking up a point against the modern-day Manchester City, as that performance proved the players were clearly fighting for Bilic and his staff.
Joseph Masi reported that the Baggies board had been holding talks with multiple candidates through the week and the agent of one of those who failed leaked the news just after the draw at the Etihad.
No matter which way you look at this one, it doesn’t look great for the Albion board and should fans return to The Hawthorns on Sunday, we expect there to be some backlash fired their way.
