‘Magnificent’ – Owen Hargreaves claims WBA mainstay had ‘Perfect game’ v Man City
Owen Hargreaves has claimed that West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone had the “perfect game” against Manchester City on Tuesday.
The Baggies managed to pick up an amazing point against one of the Premier League’s best and managed to keep them quiet for the majority of the 1-1 draw.
Hargeaves believed that Johnstone was “magnificent” after he pulled off some great reflex saves to keep his side in the game in added time.
Speaking on Amazon Prime after the game, Hargreaves was blown away by the performance of the Baggies stopper at the Etihad.
“Sam Johnstone played fabulous, the perfect game,” he said.
“Huge saves – De Bruyne was putting in some fabulous balls and that save with his foot is absolutely spectacular. You can get punished and they should have scored, City.
“Credit Sam Johnstone, he was magnificent.”
After weeks of pulling off phenomenal saves and not getting his reward at the end of the game, Johnstone finally played his role in picking up a positive result.
The 27-year-old made six saves according to WhoScored, and he also claimed the ball once from dangerous crosses as City camped in the Baggies final third.
For the majority of the first hour, City didn’t really test the keeper, but he stayed alert as they bombarded the goal in the final minutes of the draw.
Johnstone had hundreds of critics last season, but every single one of them have surely been proved wrong as the stopper makes his case for the Player of the Year award already.
