West Brom in advanced talks to appoint new manager within days – reliable journalist

West Brom are in advanced talks to hire Sam Allardyce as Slaven Bilic’s successor in charge at The Hawthorns, according to The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley.

Writing via The Athletic app on Wednesday, Madeley reported that Allardyce, 66, is expected to be West Brom’s new manager in time for the West Midlands derby clash against Aston Villa at The Hawthorns on Sunday night.

Big Sam the logical short-term fix

Allardyce is a manager who needs no introduction. What we’ve seen from him over the years in the Premier League is what we’ll hopefully get.

The former Bolton, Newcastle and Sunderland manager has never been relegated and whenever he has taken charge of a team mid-season, they’ve finished higher than when they started.

West Brom are 19th in the table as it stands with 13 games played. One win in 13 league games or four wins in 24 league games.

It’s going to be a tough job for Big Sam – perhaps one of the toughest of his career. But we believe the club is more likely to be in the Premier League in 2021/22 with Allardyce at the helm than it would have been with Bilic.

Allardyce is the perfect short-term fix whether you like it or not. In the long-term, obviously, he’s not a viable option.

But if West Brom can stay up this season, hopefully they will have more money in the bank to improve the squad next summer so Premier League survival comes a lot easier for the next boss.
