‘Takeover is imminent’ – Carlton Palmer makes WBA claim after Sam Allardyce appointment

Carlton Palmer has claimed that a takeover is “imminent” at West Brom after the appointment of Sam Allardyce.

Slaven Bilic was sacked and replaced by Big Sam all within 24 hours of the Baggies picking up a fabulous point against Manchester City.

Palmer admitted that this will be the doing of the new potential Albion owners and not the fault of the likes of Guochuan Lai.

Speaking to Football Fan Cast, Palmer believes that a new takeover at the Hawthorns is around the corner this season.

“So whether there’s a takeover happening, and the new owners have already been in conversations with Sam, and that’s the person they want to bring in,” he said.

“There’s something happening behind the scenes and obviously, it’ll all be revealed in the next few weeks. There’s something going on, I think a takeover is imminent, and the new owners wanted Big Sam.”

West Brom have held talks with an American consortium over the sale of the club, with either a full takeover or 15% minority stake.

The Telegraph reported back in November that the Baggies were holding out for £150million, but that it may be considered too much.

That consortium shouldn’t have had too much impact on this appointment, but Lai and the current board will know that relegation would seriously reduce their asking price if they want to sell the club.

Allardyce has never been relegated from the top-flight, in numerous different clubs such as Sunderland and Crystal Palace, and that is the main goal.

We wouldn’t suggest a takeover is imminent, but survival in the Premier League will have a massive impact on whether it does happen or not.
